To the best of my knowledge, the bionic hearing aid first hit the market in 2009.  Endorsed by Lee Majors at the time of its release, it has sold very well through both TV and the Internet.  The hearing aid itself is unique in the fact that it is rechargeable, which is the most highlighted feature whenever you hear about it.  That one feature alone is actually the number one reason that this hearing aid has been so successful.  Traditional hearing aids work with small batteries, similar to the ones you would use in a wrist watch.  The bionic hearing aid has a rechargeable battery inside that is recharged with a base unit.

Like a majority of other hearing aids on the market, the bionic hearing aid is small and discreet.  The benefit of this doesn’t need too much explanation, but I will explain it for those of you who have not worn a hearing aid.  If you are wearing an obvious hearing device, then you will start noticing people looking at your ears more than usual.  Even if you are an outgoing and social person, it can get quite annoying to have people looking at your hearing aid all the time.  I could also get into age stereotypes that come up with people wearing hearing aids, but I won’t.  I can only recommend that you get a small flesh-colored hearing aid that is hard to see at first glance.

Another clear benefit to getting this hearing aid is the price.  I did a fair amount of searching around the Internet and locally for hearing aid costs before writing this review.  Most traditional hearing aids are selling for anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000.  As far as I know, Medicare only covers around $500 of a hearing aid purchase.  This puts a lot of hearing aids out of reach for a lot of us.  But the good news is that the bionic hearing aid is actually quite affordable in comparison.

This hearing aid initially comes with a 30 day trial for just under $15.  If you like it and want to keep it, the hearing aid is purchased in 3 payments of $100.  In my opinion, that price is a lot better than forking over $1,000 for a hearing aid that you can’t even try.

In conclusion, I think that the bionic hearing aid is a great option for a number of reasons.  The more important being:

• It is rechargeable.  This means that you won’t have to fiddle around with small batteries anymore.
• The low-cost.  I personally would never spend over $500 for a hearing aid and I don’t know why anyone else would.
